Selling rules
What you can and can't sell.
Rukata is for real things you own and can ship. Some items are not allowed, either because the law restricts them or because carriers like USPS, UPS, FedEx and DHL will not carry them. If it cannot ship, it cannot sell. If something is not on this list but feels risky, do not list it.
You can sell
New, unused and open-box goods you own: clothing, shoes, bags and accessories, electronics and gadgets, home and kitchen, and sealed beauty. Extras, samples, and whatever is not moving are exactly what Rukata is for.
What you can't sell
- Drugs and pharmaceuticals
- Illegal drugs, controlled substances, cannabis, CBD, and drug paraphernalia. Prescription drugs, prescription or medical devices, supplements sold as medicine, and research chemicals.
- Weapons and dangerous goods
- Firearms, ammunition, gunpowder, explosives, and firearm parts. Fireworks and sparklers. Self-defense sprays like pepper spray or mace. Knives or tools made as weapons. Hazardous, toxic, or radioactive materials.
- Batteries and powered rides
- Loose or spare lithium batteries sold on their own, and any damaged, swollen, or recalled battery. Car and other wet lead-acid batteries. Large-battery rides that carriers will not ship: hoverboards, e-scooters, e-bikes, and power stations. A phone, laptop, or other device with its battery installed is fine to sell.
- Flammable liquids, fuels, and aerosols
- Perfume, cologne, nail polish and remover, hairspray and other aerosols, spray paint, lighters and lighter fluid, butane, propane, gasoline, fire extinguishers, and compressed gas. Carriers only take these with special ground handling, and we cannot check that.
- Alcohol and tobacco
- Alcohol, tobacco, cigarettes, cigars, e-cigarettes, vapes, e-juice, and smoking accessories.
- Live animals and animal products
- Live animals, livestock, and pets. Wildlife and any product from an endangered or protected species, such as ivory, certain furs, skins, bone, or shell. Human remains or body parts.
- Food and perishables
- Fresh produce, food that goes off, and homemade or unpackaged food. These come with safety and licensing rules we cannot check.
- Counterfeit, stolen, and recalled goods
- Counterfeits, replicas, and unauthorized copies, anything that infringes a trademark or copyright, stolen property, and items under a safety recall.
- Adult and offensive material
- Sexually explicit content or services, and anything that promotes hate, violence, or self-harm.
- Official and regulated items
- Government IDs and documents, government or transit property, currency and counterfeit currency, financial instruments, securities, credit cards, gift cards, and lottery or gambling items.
- Personal data
- Personal or health information, account logins, and anything that would expose another person's private data.
- Anything illegal
- Anything illegal to own, sell, or ship under federal, state, or local law, or restricted by United States export and sanctions rules.
This list does not cover everything. Making sure what you sell is legal to own, sell and ship is on you. We take down listings that break these rules. Do it again, or do something serious, and we can suspend your account and hold any payout tied to it.
